Hotel Summit
The Summit is a very special Nepali style hotel with western comfort.
Terraces set in spacious flower gardens give views north across the Kathmandu valley to the snow clad Himalayan range beyond.
Open balconies with hand made tile floors and carved wooden pillars connect to the rooms.
A wide range of accommodation is offered, from the self contained apartments in ‘Summit Towers’ and the luxurious ‘Himalaya View Wing Rooms’, to the original ‘Garden Wing Rooms’ and the good value budget accommodation available in ‘Holland House’.
The Summit has a famous bar and restaurant, beautiful gardens and terraces, an outdoor pool, beauty salon, business centre, conference and meeting facilities, room service , wireless internet and telephones from all rooms.
It was founded in 1978 by a group of Dutchmen who had – and still have – a great affinity for the country, its mountains, people, history and culture.
Together with a small group of Nepalese – some are still working at the Summit Hotel – they built 36 Garden Wing rooms and in 1990 the Himalayan View Wings. Currently the hotel offers 73 rooms and employs some 150 Nepalese employees. A Nepalese and an English managing director are currently in charge of the daily management. They are supported by a Dutch Board of Directors and 8 shareholder families.
ACCOMMODATION
Himalaya View Wing Rooms
Room description : All rooms have brand new fitted bathrooms, with bath tubs and showers, air-conditioning, wood parquet floors and full redecoration throughout. All retain that special Summit character. Offer a much higher level of comfort than before.
Garden Wing Rooms
Room description : Summit’s original rooms. Brick with carved wood open balconies over looking the garden and swimming pool. Bathrooms fully upgraded in 1999/2000 – shower only.
Summit Tower Rooms
Room description : Eight spacious rooms built above the private Summit Towers courtyard. Same rates applies for rooms 600, 501, 502 and 609 – all a little special and fitted with cable TV. From the Summit Tower there is a great view across the city, with the mighty Himalaya range beyond.
Summit Tower Apartments
Room description : Perched on the third and fourth floors with beautiful 360° views of the valley. Self contained Kitchen, one bedroom, lounge, bath, A/C, cable TV
Holland House
Room description : Two storied building with own gardens and roof space. The rooms are clean and comfortable with toilets and showers on each floor. Ideal for expeditions, school or student groups, and those on a tighter budget. Full access to all other hotel facilities, including swimming pool, fitness centre, beauty parlor and sauna.
RESTAURANTS
The Summit Hotel operates the restaurant in the Patan Museum, is open from 10am – 5 pm and offers an excellent variety of Nepalese, and continental snacks and meals with organic vegetables and salads grown in the Museum gardens.
The Patan Museum itself displays the traditional sacred art of Nepal in an outstanding architectural setting. Its home is an old residential court of Patan Durbar, one of the royal palaces of the former Malla kings of the Kathmandu Valley. Its gilded door and windows face one of the most beautiful squares in the world.
The museum’s exhibits cover a long span of Nepal’s cultural history and some rare objects are among its treasures. Their meaning and context within the living traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism are all clearly explained. Most of the objects are cast bronzes and gilt copper repoussé work, traditional crafts for which Patan is famous.
